The Ultimate BiSide marked a special milestone for Juan Rombaut, becoming the biplane he flew to win his first U.S. competition — the Arizona Desert Challenge 2024. As Juan’s first BJCraft biplane, it immediately impressed with its blend of classic biplane performance and a natural, forgiving flight feel that makes it easy to adapt to.
 
Designed by BJ Park, the BiSide features a swept‑wing layout and rear‑canopy design, combining the precision and authority of a biplane with a smoother, more proportional response than more aggressive models like the Muscle Cloud. This makes it a perfect choice for pilots transitioning from monoplanes or anyone seeking a balanced, competition‑capable biplane without the “all‑or‑nothing” control feel typical of the class.
 
Configuration
This competition‑proven build uses the Dualsky CRS3500 ContraDrive, chosen to deliver extra power when needed for high‑demand maneuvers and to counteract the inherent drag of biplane designs. It’s paired with the Dualsky Summit HV ESC for smooth, predictable throttle management. Falcon CRS 23x20 propellers add crispness and excellent braking authority, enhancing overall control. For surfaces, Dualsky DS9420 mini servos are used on ailerons, elevator, while a DS‑8930 on the rudder provides strong, precise yaw performance.
 
Flight characteristics
The BiSide shines with its beautiful knife‑edge performance, precise span rolls, and clean line‑tracking. It’s incredibly stable in crosswinds, easy to trim, and adaptable to different flying styles — equally comfortable in unknowns, P programs, or full‑on competition flights. Its forgiving character makes it the ideal first biplane for aspiring competitors, yet it has all the refinement needed for the highest‑level F3A schedules.
